Ancient Egyptian funerary boat
This wooden funerary boat features 8 figures (7 rowers and 1 helmsman) with intracate decoration and detail. Model boats were often included in ancient Egyptian graves. They show the importance of travel in Egyptian society and symbolised travel to the afterlife. In light of new information we believe that the boat may have come from the archeological site Beni Hasan, on the Eastern bank of the Nile, and potentially from the tomb of Senu-Atef excavated from 1902-1904.
