Lead Pig Trough
Cast iron trough with raised mirrored lettering in the base. Pigs of lead were produced by pouring the molten led into troughs. Each smelt mill had its own marks so that the origin of the lead was obvious and to deter stealing. The larger mills had troughs with their comapny names cast in mirror writing so that the resulting pig lead would have clearly stencilled lettering.
