Cutting Sugar Cane by William Berryman, 1815

William Berryman was an English artist who lived in Jamaica between 1808 and 1815. Berryman drew enslaved people going about everyday enforced tasks in the Caribbean landscape. This image shows enslaved people cutting sugar cane. It would have been a very similar scene to that on Roger Kynaston’s Bunker Hill plantation. Do you think this is an accurate image?
