Indian Memorial at Menin Gate, Ypres

This memorial was unveiled in March 2011. It is dedicated to the 130,000 troops of the Indian Forces who served in Flanders during the First World War. Over 9,000  died as casualties in France and Flanders, both in battle and due to the harsh winter conditions.

The sculpture represents the pillars of Ashoka with “God is one, he is victory” inscribed in several languages.
