Map of Europe Printed Between 1544-52
Woodcut map of Europe from the British Museum collection. It was probably printed by Petri in Basel, Switzerland in 1544-52 for a book by Sebastian Münster, called 'Cosmographia'. It is quite naïve and simple in its carving. What does it tell us about how people viewed Europe in the Tudor period? Which parts are emphasised? How is this different, or similar, to what we know now?
