Rosa Parks, Civil Rights Activist

From left to right: Rosa Parks, First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt and Autherine Lucy Foster. Rosa Parks (1913—2005) helped initiate the civil rights movement in the United States when she refused to give up her seat to a white man on a bus in Alabama in 1955. At the time, black people were required by law to give up their seat to white people.

Autherine Juanita Lucy is an American activist who was the first African-American student to attend the University of Alabama, in 1956.  She was expelled just a year later, an action which led to the resignation of the universty's president.
