This resource is part of the Museum Snapshot collection - a collection of smaller resources perfect for starters, plenaries or spare moments to explore something fascinating.
This dress is approximately 260 years old. It was probably worn by a rich individual going to a fancy evening party or ball.
The gown was given to Leeds Museums and Galleries by a local Leeds man in 1949. Most of the older garments in the Leeds fashion and textiles collection came from him - he was a collector and loved historic clothes as much as we do.
