Undivided India: When discussing India’s contribution in WW1, scholars use the term ‘undivided India’ to refer to British India before the 1947 Partition of the subcontinent. The term encompasses within it an India that included the present day states of Pakistan, India, and Bangladesh.

Untouchables: People referred to as Dalits today were previously known as untouchables. Till date they are considered to be the lowest stratum of the castes in India which mean they continue to face discrimination and are often relegated to menial jobs in India.

British honour System: In the UK, personal bravery, achievement, or service are rewarded with honours. Honours system consists of three types of award: like Honours are used to recognise merit in terms of achievement and service, Decorations tend to be used to recognise specific deeds, Medals are used to recognise service on a particular operation or in a specific theatre, long or valuable service, and good conduct.
